I want to ride! How do I get on a lesson?
Lessons run on a weekly sign-ups basis. Join our club by buying membership from our SU Page and every Wednesday evening you will get an email in your University email inbox from us with a link to a sign-up form. Just fill it in with all the required details, and watch for another email over the weekend to tell you whether you have got on the lesson for the following Wednesday.
Do I have to ride every week?
Not at all! Just sign up as and when you can/want to ride.
How do we get to the yard?
Transport to the yard is either in the form of a lift in another member’s car, or on the train. Your mode of transport for the week will be included in the final list email, sent the weekend before the lesson.
How do I pay for my lesson?
If you have a compatible bank card, you can visit our SU page, login with your University login details, and use our payment tabs to pay the required amount dependent on your method of transport. If for any reason you cannot pay using this method, please let us know and we can take your payment in cash.
What should I wear, and what if I don't have my own hat/boots/jodhpurs?
Comfortable clothing is best (for example leggings) and long sleeves are a good idea. If you don’t have riding boots, there are a limited selection available to borrow at no extra cost from the yard. Alternatively you can wear Wellington boots or any boot, so long as there is a heel and no laces (for health and safety reasons). Hats can be borrowed from the yard.
Which group should I sign up for?
To help you decide which group to ride in, refer to the lesson descriptions on our Lessons pages! If you are unsure, sign up for the lesson you think best fits your ability – the instructors will let you know if they think you should move up, or are better off starting in a lower group until you get into the swing of things!
I've never ridden or been around horses before - can I still sign up?
ABSOLUTELY! We encourage members of all abilities, and have had past members who had never set foot near a horse before joining the club. Book onto one of our beginner lesson blocks (a set of 4 lessons across successive Wednesdays) to get you started!
I've been told I'm driving people to their lessons but I'm unsure on some aspect of this?

I'm catching the train to the yard - will anyone meet me at the station to get me there?
There won’t be anyone to necessarily meet you at the station and assist you in getting to the yard, but it’s unusual that you’d be the only one going on the train so it’s likely you’ll find other people going riding on the platform! Even if you don’t, hop on the right train and make your way to the yard and you’ll find people there!
